PASS

The Providence Alliance for Student Safety (PASS) coalition began in December 2019, comprised of youth-led organizations, Alliance of Rhode Island Southeast Asians for Education (ARISE), Providence Student Union (PSU), and Providence Youth Student Movement (PRYSM). PASS has since been joined by Youth In Action (YIA), Rhode Island Urban Debate League (RIUDL), and Youth Voices.

We decided to come together to demand an increase in support staff for students while eliminating school resource officers (SROs) out of Providence schools. As we continue to carry and push for campaigns to remove punitive systems out of the classrooms. Our “Counselors NOT Cops” campaign is our way to dismantle inherent racist and anti-black rhetoric and practices within the Providence public school system, including implementing a change of the urgent need to remove police officers from all cities and towns in Rhode Island.

P.A.S.S. has always and will continue to fight against the injustice of police brutality, and support the movement for Black lives. We are here to stand and mobilize with the Providence community and support our Youth against systemic racism and anti-blackness.
